The original DL1 proved quite popular since its introduction. It's a well tried and tested design ideal for folk who want a low maintenance super tough steel knife that takes and holds a very keen edge and can be totally relied upon in any wilderness environment.
The DL1 evolved from the original Mk 1 version through to its current Mk 3 version in 52100 Bearing steel and continues to attract lots of excellent feedback for its aesthetically pleasing looks, usability and toughness.

THE DL1 - MK3 (AISI 52100 Bearing Steel)
Shown is the DL1 MK3 blade atop my own MK1 bladed knife.
The MK3 has a more substantial blade with a longer cutting edge that sweeps upwards towards the point.
Please note that as with all my knives, the handle shape and profile may vary from knife to knife. The reason for this is that while the front part of the knife remains constant, I shape each knife's handle according to the end user's hand size and/or personal preferences.
The DL1 Mk3 dimensions are as follows: Overall length - 225mm Blade length - 110mm Handle length - 115mm Blade thickness - 4.2mm Widest part (at Ricasso) - 32mm Widest part (at start of cutting edge) - 31mm Widest part (at pommel end) - 33mm Type of Grind - Scandi Depth of grind - 8-9mm Pin holes - 3 (Plain Brass pins or Mosaic pins) Brass Lanyard Hole - 1
Handle - materials can be natural quality figured linear hardwoods and Burls, Black Buffalo Horn, synthetic G10 and Micarta or a combination of compatible materials depending on personal preferences.
Sheath - are of the standard British type made from 3-4mm thick natural Veg tanned leather dyed to compliment the knife and/or according to personal preferences. An adjustable extension loop may be added which helps give more freedom of movement and make the knife more accessible when wearing long coats.

SOME EXAMPLES OF DL1'S (Mk1 to Mk3) MADE TO DATE ARE SHOWN BELOW
As can be seen, build variations make for a unique knife for no two are ever the same. Also worth noting that the handle profile varies according to the end user's hand size.

NB: As these knives are individually hand made and therefore all sizes are approximate and some minor variations from blade to blade and knife to knife are to be expected...

DL1 MK1 - PROTOTYPES
The knife on the left was the very first DL1 prototype blade and as I meant to to keep it for myself I wanted to experiment with the handle material and configuration, hence choosing Corian in two different contrasting colours and blend them together in a rather complex design. As can be seen it turned out quite an attractive knife, perhaps too pretty for a Bushcraft style knife!
The knife on the right was one of a batch of five that Jesper B. Nielsen made for me in RWL 34. From here on I altered the blade and grind considerably leaning more towards the more traditionally accepted Bushcraft type profile.
