I take great pride in every aspect of my hobby, so I find feedback, for better or worse, the best way for me to gauge how well I fared in meeting the end users' needs and expectations. I continue to learn by doing and take every comment as an opportunity to improve further. I care and like most people, I appreciate a pat on the back when I've done well and made someone happy...

My dad has asked me to pass on his thanks to you, he said the knife was 'absolutely superb, beautiful steel, beautiful wood, the guy is some craftsman'. I knew he would love it and......he's using it! I thought it would just be displayed in the gun cabinet but no, he commented on how sharp it was and took it out the day after his birthday.

I just wanted to send you a small note of gratitude for your amazingly generous gesture to me. When I say that I love the knives it doesn't really do them justice. Honestly, being a bit of a knife-nerd myself, I am in absolute rapture at these gifts I have received. I get them out and just look at them for no particular reason almost every day, running a thumb across the blade and feeling their balance and grip. They are beautiful and elegant as well as simply being the best made knives I have ever owned. I know this sounds all a bit over-the-top, but in all honesty I am a little bit overwhelmed. They're amazing.
And one thing is for sure - you know they're going to get one hell of a lot of use.

But I'm glad to say I now have the knife and I'm very pleased with it. The craftsmanship of the handle, the sheath and the blade are second to none and it feels excellent in the hand. DL1 received!!!
Exactly what I wanted and requested!   Lovely work!   The handle fits my hand perfectly and is truly right handed ( as I am ).   I was impressed by the photo you sent, but the photo did not do the knife or sheath justice.   
The first "cutting" I did was to grab some junk mail, shred it up, and strike a fire on the grate.   Can't wait to use it in woods.
This knife will not be one of the many relegated to a drawer.   It is a lovely tool that begs to be used!!

Hi Paul

Well the envelope has just arrived and I have to say that this is absolutely the best work you have done for me. I am so pleased I went with the undyed Masur birch which looks stunning and you have shaped the handle scales beautifully.

I also love the sheaths particularly the neck sheath. You did say that you would have liked them to be lighter but I think they both contrast and compliment the knives very well.

Can't say anymore than a very big thank you!

Now I know you said you were easing off a bit etc but do you think, before you do, that you might let me have one of those Dartmoor Survival knives that you mentioned except with the 'Frenchy Treatment'. I would like it to compliment the beaver and shadow combo using the same natural masur birch finish with the mosaic pins and lanyard. With the blade I liked what you did by smoothing off the Rambo like saw edge and then I assume we could have a leather Sheath a la French design!

I hope that this would be possible but if its too much tell me to bugger off and no problem. As you know I am never in a rush and am happy to fit in to your schedule.

The knife has arrived this morning  and is a very difficult thing to put down as I am sure you will appreciate. It is fantastic, beautifully made with great care and attention to detail and a real work of art. I just know that my friend will love it and although I think it will be hard to part with in September, just as I am sure you feel an attachment to everything you make, the thought of the pleasure it will bring over the coming years is the important factor. I am sure he will pass it on to his son so that the whole thing will live on.

Just wanted to drop you a note to say that I have received my knife and I am very happy with it. 

It looks amazing, it feels great in my hand and I spent some time cutting feather sticks with it over the weekend and it cuts wonderfully.

You kept the back of the blade square close to the handle square so that I can use it with a fire steel. The sheath is great I like that you put my initials on it, very personal.

I really love my knife. The photo on your website does not do it justice.

Paul, the knife showed up today. I guess the lesson is that the USPS doesn't track registered mail and it may get here in 5 days or 30 days. I guess next time I will pay you the extra to ship the knife either Priority or Express. They normally take 5 business days and they track the package.

 

I wanted to mention that the knife is fantastic and it makes most knifes look like amateur hour. I own some very nice knives but this is at the top of the list and is one solid tool. I am looking forward to using it this summer while camping in our mountains. Thanks again and I will send you an update to let you know some of my experiences.

Hello Paul I received both knives, well, where do I start? The Super Bushmaster, the sheath ah!  black basketweave classic! reminds of old Bianchi pistol holsters.I must say I like the new ergonomic handle on the firesteel I think less likely to slip. I have knives from others makers  with Micarta handles & I know its a laminate but I wasn't quite prepared for the patterns this would create with a 2 colour mix, I like it!! looking at the blade profile I like the fact that the tip has a slightly "blunter" profile cos if you are batoning through wood to create firewood or trying to romove large pieces of bark I think the last thing you want is a "needle point" out of sight waiting to catch you. Good looking comfortable in the hand & eminently usable overall it goes all the way up to 11 (movie reference there)    The Talisman II not sure what the pattern on sheath is, but it works almost as well as basketweave produces a similar pattern I'm trying to think of a word to describe the Burl on the handle scales I think the best is "swirls" Very Nice,  as the blade design for this is  close to that of the Super Bushmaster all the previous comments apply (especially going up to 11)    Yours as ever Bill  Birch

Just a quick note to say that I have received the Bushmaster knife safely and thank you. I am absolutely delighted, the Knife and sheath are top quality. The black Buffalo horn handle with the red liner and mosaic pins look fantastic, the sheath is very sturdy and a fantastic fit, but the knife itself is a ‘beauty’; great shape, weight and balance, with a really nice finish. I can’t wait to give it a good field test, although to honest it looks to nice to take it outside! J

Received the knife. It is absolutely stunning. I am so chuffed its hard to put into words. This is the first opportunity I have had to get onto the net since I picked it up from the post office on Saturday.
I have also been whittling mad - if it can be whittled - it has - nothing more than piles of chippings so far - one day I will try and make something - canoe paddle probably - something small and easy....
I must just say again, it is an absolutely fantastic piece of kit - the leatherwork is fantastic and the initials were a real surprise - magnificent...cant wait to get out there and use her properly (are knives female? Or its? Seems more than an it to me - mines female - just decided).

Hi Paul I received my Talisman & I can say I'm REALLY  REALLY  glad I opted for Mosaic Pins 'cos the contrast batween them & the black Buffalo Horn is amazing for such a small detail. I really like the sheath decorated but somewhat understated at the same time. I thinkt his knife deserves a phrase I have seen used in some American Knife Books, in that not saying there wasn't a lot of thought & hard work that went into it but that it has "an elegant simplicity". As you say this is the last of the original Talisman blades I think you can sit back & award yourself a self - satisfied glow because you have produced a beautiful hand filling warm to the touch piece of ART ! ! !  as usual  Yours ever  Bill

In all modesty I may say I have handled quite a few knives but have never held a knife handle with such a perfect ergonomics, very , very well done. The finish with antler and the brass butt cap is superb. Thank you.My mate is still on vacation but I can assure you this knife is spot on,
knowing his taste in knives a little. Your idea of a nice sheath is not less than a perfect choice  and a suitable companion to the knife's rich appearance  and, I have no doubt, performance. Hi Paul,

Received the carefully packed knives this morning and at first sight they are true pieces of craftsmanship. I was expecting a high level of craftsmanship after the shadow but the three together do look truly... well perfect is not an understatement. I can't wait to get out in the woods next week and have a play with them and I will keep you updated on their performance. The Robert Mattsson scandi is definitely right for the job and I have adjusted the leather so it fits nicely around the neck. As regards to the sheath they are excellent and the I love the design. The Leuku fits very well on my hip and is nice worn on either side. They will be perfect for my trips and I'm sure whatever else I put them though they will perform to a high standard.

I will email next week after I have had a chance to take them out and let you know how they perform.

Hi Paul the new Leuku arrived safely, once I'd unpacked it I must admit I spent some time just "looking" at it, then I got round to "handling" it the balance is absolutely superb to my mind (although heavier) much better for my hands than a traditional Leuku. I doubt very much I will want see any more Purpleheart handle scales I think you could say I've flogged that theme within an inch of it's life, but there's one thing you can definitely say, there will be NO argument over which is MY cutlery!!!!!  Can't wait to try it on something I'm betting "the definition of sharp" according to Frenchy means it'll go straight through.  Yours as ever Bill

I did receive the knives.  I apologize for not letting you know  
sooner.  We left town the day they arrived and did not have access to  
the internet.  Then when we returned my computer died.  At last  
everything is back to normal.

Anyway, the knives are beautiful and the sheaths too.  Thanks for your  
hard work.  I think the firesteels turned out really nice, I've never  
had them match the knife.  I have to use one of the knives soon just  
to get used to using it.  I haven't given them to my sons yet, but I'm  
sure they will appreciate them.

I will check your website occasionally to see what you are making.

About an hour ago I got one the nicest surprises I've ever had - brought by the postman!

 

I see what you mean not about the original sheath being usable by either hand - but I am so blown away by the knife and British sheath that I haven't thought much about it.

 

I took a bit of a flyer on the knife because you obviously cannot be sure it will feel right until you hold it. I have small hands and whilst it does not sit well in my right hand it really could have been tailor made for my left.

 

To quote you "it is arguably the best knife you could possibly own". I'm not arguing - I'm delighted. Thank you for ending a 40 year quest for a knife I am 100% happy with. It is already on my belt and will stay there.

 

It would be wrong not to use such a fine tool for the purpose for which it was made - so use it I will  -probably every day.

The knives arrive today just as you promised.

I am very impressed with the quality of the workmanship.  I could not 
have wanted better handles for the blades, and the sheaths are a very 
good match for each style.

One knife (the small Bowie) has already found a home as an early 
Christmas present for my wife, who is a keen hunter.  One question - is 
the thong on the sheath for decoration, to attach the knife to the 
sheath, to attach the sheath to your leg or for some other purpose?

I know that you are going into hospital soon, so please accept my best 
wishes for a speedy recovery.

I will keep an eye open for further blades and I am sure we will find 
new projects to work on in the New Year.

I knew it would be special but Paul it is a work of art, I am so pleased 
with it that I dont know where to start to tell you what I'm feeling. It 
fits my hand perfectly as though it were an extension of my arm, you've 
probably heard it before but you are a Genius Paul. I'm so glad that I sold 
the knives that I was selling to you and did'nt accept the higher offers, 
and the reason I did that was because you were the only one who offered me 
their condolences, and that meant a great deal to me. I'm  glad that I went 
for the Bearing steel, it's unbelievable and the sheath and firesteel I just 
cant believe how lucky I am to own such a creation, you should feel really 
proud Paul I know I would if I had created it. Theres only one problem Paul 
! what ever I make in the future is going to be overshadowed by this knife,

The knife arrived safe & sound yesterday, thank you. It is beautiful! It is also a very good weight and has good balance. Both the steel and the timber are stunning and yet the knife also feels very usable. My dad will love it.

I am really grateful to you for making me such a beautiful object, you must be very proud. When I want my own knife I'll let you have my details. I'm left handed but other than that it's very tempting to want the same knife as my dad's. The knife arrived today, the envelope was waiting for me on the kitchen table when I got home from work and I could not wait to open it.

Before I got the bobble rap off I could feel the weight,and when I saw it I was just amazed its fantastic Iam so pleased.

The colour and shape of the sheath are just right, the handle fits in my hand and feels really good, I love the pattern on the handle and the red liner looks just right.

I have just this very minute returned home from a skiing holiday. The first thing I did was to open the envelope with my knife in it. The second is to send you this mail thanking you for a first class job on my old knife.

Paul you really cannot imagine how much this knife means to me - it was my very first serious knife and has been around in the bottom of drawers - tool boxes etc. for the past 40 years. It really is uplifting to see it in such a good condition and in a grand sheath as well. It now has pride of place next to the old whitby original bowie.

And thanks for the leather strop - I will let you know how I get on.

Unforunately I don't have any more knives which would benefit from your attention.

TRADING POSSIBILITIES

 

I'm a proper knife enthusiast as I don't just make knives, I collect them as well.  Although I've just about got together most of the knives I've been interested in acquiring, there's always room for the odd interesting specimen!  I know that I should stop collecting knives, but I find it ever so hard not to.  I don't specialise in any particular type or brand of knife, albeit that Puma knives dominate in my collection.  Basically if I come across or am offered something that I find interesting, I'll try and make a fair deal.

 

Here's the deal.  I'm quite happy to consider a 'trade' against any of my knives for any knife that might appeal to me.  So, if you would like one of my knives and have a knife that you would like me to consider as part of a trade-in deal, just get in touch and let me have the details and a photo or two.

 

My decision as to whether we can do a deal or not will mostly depend on the following criteria:

 

1.  Is the knife of interest to me?

2.  Have I already got it in my collection?

3.  What you value your knife for and what its value is to me. 

4.  If the value of your knife is higher than the knife you'd like from me, would I be in a favourable financial position at the time to make the deal?

5.  My priority is that the deal is fair, mutually beneficial and hassle free.

6.  Timing of potential deal.  Sometimes, even with the best of intentions, a deal is just not possible on account of unfavourable personal circumstances. In such instances I promise to respect your position and in return I expect you to respect mine.
